Slow Breathing Guiding Device
3.3. Signals Processing
Figure 2:
Signals during a RESPeRATE session .
•
The signals were sampled at 500 Hz.
•
LDF signal was filter with Butterworth
low pass filter.
•
Pearson product moment Correlation (corr)
was made between respiratory and LDF
signals at different breathing rates.
•
Software algorithm was programmed to
display RR interval from the ECG signals.
•
Statistical analysis was performed using
paired t test significance level p<0.05

5. Conclusions
•
The breathing exercise applied seems to entrain the cardiovascular system mostly
at breathing rate of 6 8 bpm. At lower rates, vasomotion frequencies, the known
spontaneous oscillation of the arterioles, dominates the capillary flow.
•
Breathing rate is associated with tissue oxygenation. At low enough breathing
rate(<6 bpm) the peripheral microcirculation fails to provide blood supply to the
peripheral tissues.
•
The results may have a clinical potential in expressing the cardio pulmonary control
of blood supply to the peripheral microcirculation.
