•
Lung tissue alone cannot bear liquid in the lower lobe.
•
Lung attached to the rib cageand the diaphragm’s tendon shows not negligible
displacements, meaning, large tension stresses occurs in those places.
•
Porosity flow allows particles washing at the lobe.
•
According todiffusion estimation, only ~15%of urea clearance is possible in pulmonary
dialysis. Thus, pulmonary dialysis has no advantage over the current available
procedures.

PulmonaryDialysis - PartA/B
Strength simulations on critical parts of the device were done using SolidWorkssoftware.
Three critical partswere examined in order to confirm their stability under the applied load.
•
Themaximal stresses on thewall, support disk and rodare~0.087[MPa], 2.2[MPa],
0.68[MPa], respectively. These stresses are lower than themaximal allowed stresses
which are48 [MPa], 48 [MPa], 172 [Mpa], respectively.
•
Themaximal displacement on thewall, support disk and rod0.000574, 0.0585and
0.000322, respectively.

BasedonBALmeasurements, the estimation of urea clearance is 11.25 [ml/min].
Compared tohealthy urea clearance of 74.68 [ml/min].
