Main issues in system design
1. Sea water environment – increased
corrosion of submerged equipment.
2. The system is to withstand hydrostatic
pressures of 3 to 6 atm.
3. Cavitation phenomenon at high speeds
limits propulsion velocities.
4. Thermocline water layers layers of
water in which the temperature
changes rapidly with increasing depth,
causing changes in refraction of sound
– may cause signal disruption and
reading errors.
5. Impact on sea environment excluding
extreme noise and oil based
equipment.
